Art can be a powerful tool for self-expression, healing, and activism. To recognize the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, Nova Vita put out a call for artwork from our community that expressed their commitment to action in ending gender-based violence. Nova Vita received several beautiful and moving pieces, and we are so honoured to be able to share them with you today.
Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is about remembering and honouring the many women across the country who have been killed due to gender-based violence. It was sparked by the tragic and senseless act of targeted violence 31 years ago at l’Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, where a lone gunman killed 14 bright young women. Today, we remember all victims of gender-based violence across Canada, including the over 5,000 missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and the 14 young women who died at l’Ecole Polytechnique.
