Volunteering at Nova Vita
Standing alongside Nova Vita is a group of dedicated volunteers who are passionate and committed to the essential work that we do to support women and families impacted by violence and homelessness in our community. Our volunteer program welcomes caring community members who want to lend their support and expertise in a variety of areas such as:
- Administration Support: Help greet visitors and community partners on the phone and at the door, and support our administration team with other projects and tasks.
- Donation Facilitators: Help sort and organize donations at Nova Vita and assist with special donation days and campaigns like Hope For The Holidays.
- Children’s Program Support: Under the supervision of our Child & Youth Team, volunteers assist with providing fun and interactive activities for children onsite.
- Fundraising Event Support: Help support our special events by running games, welcoming guests, and assisting with event preparation.
- Skill Sharing: Do you have a special skill that you wish to share with our residential clients? Share your knowledge and help build new skills.
- Board Of Directors: You will be an integral part of the team responsible for the planning, policy development, managing resources, monitoring, communication, and advocacy for Nova Vita. Learn more here: novavita.org/about-nova-vita/#board-of-directors
Becoming A Volunteer
Due to the high volume of volunteer applications we receive, and depending on availability of opportunities, we may not be able to welcome all who apply. We are happy to keep your volunteer application on file and will reach out should another opportunity become available.
Before submitting your volunteer application, please take note of the following requirements:
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older
- Applicants will be required to submit a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Due to the length of the onboarding and orientation process, Nova Vita requires a minimum time commitment of 6 months
- Applicants must be separated from Nova Vita services for more than 2 years in order to be considered for our volunteer program
If you’re a great fit for an available position, Nova Vita will reach out to schedule an interview with our team. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, get more information about the role, and to share the skills and talents you can bring to Nova Vita! Following the interview, Nova Vita will reach out to your references and ask for a completed police reference check. Successful applicants will then be scheduled for a volunteer orientation session and training.

Current Volunteer Opportunities
Nova Vita would love for dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. We are currently recruiting for the following volunteer positions:
Children’s Program Assistant: Under the supervision of our Child & Youth Team, our Children’s Program Assistant will help to provide fun and interactive activities for children and teens onsite at Nova Vita. Volunteers should have:
- Experiencing working with children and teens
- Good verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute age appropriate recreational activities
- Knowledge of domestic violence and the effects on children considered an asset
This position offers a flexible schedule, position specific training, and the opportunity to develop new skills and engage with your community.
