Nova Vita is currently putting out a call for artwork! December 6th is Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day is about remembering and honouring the many women across the country who have been killed due to gender-based violence. It was sparked by the tragic and senseless act of targeted violence 31 years ago at l’Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, where a lone gunman killed 14 bright young women. On December 6, we will remember all victims of gender-based violence across Canada, including the over 5,000 missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and the 14 young women who died at l’Ecole Polytechnique.

December 6 is also a day to take action in ending gender-based violence. Art can be a powerful tool for calls to action, self-expression, and healing. This year, to commemorate the date and show our support for victims of violence, we are inviting community members to create their own works of art that expresses their commitment to action in ending gender-based violence. Original pieces can be any form of artwork; paintings, drawings, photography, videography, poster, electronic design, poetry, photos, quotes, etc. We ask that participants submit a photo of their art via email to info@novavita.org no later than December 3rd at midnight. Once all submissions have been received, we will pull them together and post them in a gallery on our website and social media pages. We will post credit (title of piece, first name, and last name initial) with each submission, or participants can choose to remain anonymous (please indicate in the email submission). You do not need to be a professional artist, you just need to express yourself artistically. We thank you in advance for helping us to commemorate this important day.

Deadline for Submissions: December 3rd at 12AM.
Send Submissions To: info@novavita.org.
