Volunteering at Nova Vita

Standing behind the success of Nova Vita is a group of dedicated volunteers who are passionate and committed to the wonderful work that we do to support women and families impacted by violence and homelessness in our community. Our volunteer program is always looking for caring community members to lend their helping hands and expertise in a variety of areas.

Can you spare 3 to 4 hours a week? 10 hours a month? Support 1 to 3 special events a year?

We are always in need of volunteers to assist with our physical donations program, help at special events, and provide care within our children’s program. You can make a difference and impact positive change in your community when you volunteer with Nova Vita.

Please Note Before Submitting An Application: Due to the high volume of volunteer applications we receive, and depending on availability of opportunities, we may not be able to provide a volunteer role to every applicant. Those selected for further consideration will be contacted, and we’ll keep your application form on file for when opportunities become available!

Once your application is submitted, and an opportunity is available and a great fit, you’ll be asked to come in for an interview with our team. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, get more information about the role, and to share the skills and talents you can bring to Nova Vita! Following the interview, applicants will be asked to submit references and a police reference check. Successful applicants will then be scheduled for a volunteer orientation session and training.

Volunteer Opportunities

Nova Vita is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. We are currently recruiting for the following volunteer positions:

  • Administration Support: Volunteer between 9 am and 4 pm to help greet visitors and community partners on the phone and at the door, and support our administration team with other projects and tasks.
  • Donation Facilitators: You will help sort and organize donations at Nova Vita and assist with shop days at the shelter.
  • Children’s Program Support: Under the supervision of our Child & Youth Worker, our Children’s Program volunteers provide positive, fun, and interactive activities for children onsite.
  • Fundraising Events: Cannot commit on a regular basis, but still want to help? Join our Special Events Team and help with preparation and service at our major events.
  • Skill Sharing: Do you have a special skill that you wish to share with our residential clients? We are always looking for help with knowledge, skill building and wellness programs.
  • Board Of Directors: You will be an integral part of the team responsible for the planning, policy development, managing resources, monitoring, communication, and advocacy for Nova Vita. Learn more about this position here: novavita.org/about-nova-vita/#board-of-directors

The minimum length of commitment we ask from our volunteers is six months. Many volunteers have been involved with Nova Vita once per week for many years while other special event volunteers will only get involved in one event each year. Join today!
