The Ontario Government has declared its third state of emergency since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and will be implementing a province-wide stay at home order that will take effect at 12:01 am on Thursday April 8, 2021. We know that home is not always the safest place to be. Our team at Nova Vita continues to work diligently to provide safe emergency shelter and support services with COVID-19 prevention protocols in place. The following is a list of how programs and services may be impacted at Nova Vita:
The following essential services continue to operate in full capacity:
24 Hour Crisis and Support Line: Dial 519-752-HELP to receive immediate support and safety planning. This service is available to all members of our community. For those note able to safely place a call, you can text us at 519-754-5332 (text only line).
Emergency Shelter: is open to provide safe shelter and essential support to women and children impacted by domestic violence and homelessness. Our safe intake room is available 24/7 for emergency walk-in support.
The following programs and services will be impacted until further notice:
Community Outreach, Intake, and Other Support Services, including Women’s Community Counselling, Men’s Community Counseling/Challenge to Change, and Transitional Support Services: Emergency support is always available by calling 519-752-HELP, in-person meetings are limited, and our team will continue to offer phone and video counseling.
Donations: We are unable to accept any donations onsite without scheduling an appointment with a member of our Community Development Team. Here’s how you can help during the spring lockdown:
- Physical Donations – We are pausing our physical donations by appointment program for spring and summer clothing as we do not have the capacity to safely receive these items at this time. However, we are still in need of items on our Urgent Needs List, which can be found HERE. To make arrangements to purchase items of urgent need, please contact Jessica at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Donate Online – monetary donations ensure the required equipment, necessities, and services are supplied to residents and clients in need of additional support at this time. You can specify how you would like the money to be used when you donate online HERE or by contacting Anne at email@example.com.
- Donate Grocery Store Gift Cards – cards valued at $25 or $50 can be distributed by our counsellors to give to their outreach clients to help ease the financial burden during these volatile times. Contact Jessica at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.
Closet Couture Boutique: Our retail boutique, located at 415 Fairview Drive in Brantford, will be closed for in-person shopping. Our online store and curbside pick-up remains operational and we need your support. For more information, or to shop to make a difference online, visit www.closet-couture.ca.
Volunteer Program & Student Placements: Nova Vita is unable to have volunteer’s onsite for the duration of the lockdown and has postponed all student placements for the 2021 spring semester.
We will continue to monitor this situation closely and follow the safety guidelines and framework provided by Ontario Ministry of Health. Please visit our website www.novavita.org and follow us on social media – @NovaVitaBrant – for future updates. Together we can stop the spread and keep our community safe.
